Default RAM, Help

My friend recently bought a really kick *** new PC, and is selling off parts of his old PC.

Right now I have two(2) sticks of 256 mb PC 2100 DDR, giving me a total of 512mb system memory.

My friend is offereing to sell me his single stick of 512 PC2700 DDR for $50(CDN).

Would I see a noticable difference by taking his 2700, and matching that with one of my 256 memory sticks.

Would I notice any increase in performance from upgrading to 768 mb, as far as gaming, or load times? Enough to spend the money?
