Ok, long story. I have 3 160gb drives, 2 maxtors and 1 western digital. The two maxtors match and I want to RAID 0 those two.
1) Do both disks have to be blank in order for me to RAID them
2) The Western Digital drive is freaking loud, and inconsistent, granted two of the drives were refurbished, does WD have a trend with really loud drives?
3) I also have a RAID controller card that only picks up one of the Maxtors when I boot up, what could cause it to ignore the other one? Do I have to format it in windows before I can add it to a previously formatted drive? Could it be the SATA cable?
the controller card is a Silicon Image PCI Serial ATA host.
any help would be much appreciated
