In the new system I plan to purchase, I have decided to go with 2 WD 80 gb HD's Raid 0. What would be the ideal setup; using the onboard controller which seems standard with most newer motherboards, or a specific pci controller card? Is there a raid controller that is better than others? Also, cost is a factor here, too!

Thank-you

If cost is a factor, you probably just want to go with the onboard controller.

I'd go with onboard because (I think) when you have a pci controller, it uses some of your CPU. Correct me if I'm wrong.

on-board raid controllers hold some cpu utilization however, it is significantly less than a pci raid controller. if you are going to purchase a pci controller, go with promise technologies.
you are going to spend more money with pci vs. onboard. however, if you are looking to purchase a pci raid controller, then chances are you need it due to some sort of hard disk requirement.
if you dont need anything in particular then stick with the onboard.
