Hearing only bad things about the fx cards Id like to looks at Nvidia. How is the fx5200 against the 9200 9600 All I have is mx420 so maybe I can see significant improvement with a 9200

Will 9200 support agp4x.

Avoid anything with the "SE" label. The 9600 SE itself performs like a good old 7500, and the 9200 SE sinks even lower than that.

The 9200 itself is a good card, with performance comparable to that of the FX 5200, if not better. And pretty much every Radeon 9600 card (with the exception of the SE) can easily outperform a 5200.

Don't get any 9200. It is very comparable to the GeForce FX 5200 which isn't much better than the mx420. Go with the 9600 or better.

OK if you go with ATI just DO NOT go with SE. SE is the slowest make of their cards. To tell the truth, I could barely tell the difference from a Compusa Radeon 7000 AGP 4x from my Radeon 9200SE 8x.

I would say go with the fx5200.. but you should really think about getting something better like atleast 5600/5700.. because you are ultimatly aiming for a good card, right?

What have you heard bad about the FX series ?

The 9200 itself is a Radeon 9000 with AGP 8x support. It is still backwards compatible with AGP 4x motherboards, however I don't really see that much of a point in getting it if your motherboard doesn't even support AGP 8x (which even then makes very little difference). I would suggest looking to the Radeon 9100 instead if budget is tight.

Alot of fanboys will pretty much tell you ATI is better because they are a bunch of retards but i will care to explain. You see, the FX cards are overpriced for their performance; FX5600 and below gets wasted by GeForce 4 Titanium and cost more, while FX5700 and above gets wasted by the R300+ (9700+) yet cost as much or more. The 5900xt is good for it's price/performance, but you can get the 9800 Pro for the same price and performs alot better.
