I know that one way by telling how "good" a processor is by looking at its core speed. I've also heard something about 'cache.' What is it and is it just as important as the core speed? Also, are there anything else important to consider when looking at processors?

Neh, Catch...Cache doesn't matter. Clock speed is much more imporant. There are 2 comapanies making CPUs right now, AMD and Intel. Intel runs just off of clock speed, and the comparable AMD chip is rated by a number, like AMD 3700, which is about comparable to an Intel 3.7 gighertz. AMD is better for games, Intel...well they're cheaper.
Any chip above $500 is probablly not a good deal; lots in price gain for minimal preformance gains
