Question about processor speed on this laptop

Hello, i have an avertac laptop with an 1.8 GHz AMD Athlon XP-M 2200+ processor. My question is, sometimes when i right click my computer and get processor speeds, it will say its running at 500mhz. Does anybody know why that is?

Also, will the new intel pentium-m processors do that ? or will 1.6 ghz really be 1.6 ghz? Thanks

I think 500mhz is the FSB. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Pentium M should be the same thing. The FSB is multiplied to get the final clock speed.
