Default processor and motherboard compliance

i'm new here, and just wondering if anyone here can help me out. i'm wanting to upgrade my processor from the standard celeron 2ghz, up to a p4 2.8+. my current motherboard is an SiS650 and i'm not sure on the compliance issues between the processor and said board. especially when it comes to hyperthreading technology of the p4. if anyone knows what to look out for or whatever, it'd be greatly appreciated.
the rest of the spec of my machine is:
512mb SDRAM
128mb Geforce 5200fx
120gig HD
win xp home + sp1

i dont know off hand if it is compatible but what i do is look up info on the particular board on the internet and see what the highest speed processor your mobo can take.
