I have a Pentium 4 Socket 423 (The Original) 1.7GHz and I am using the fan and heatsink that came with the box.

I forgot what the temperature should be, but I don't think it should be this high. Lately it has been averaging 130F and peaking at 150F...I really think this is way too high. Could someone please fill me in?

Thanks,
Kevin

For a second opinion, its just fine. I think some people want to get a little to technicial, and they start paying attention to things they dont really understand, and they start freaking out. But yes, your processor is doing just fine.

Do you have any other fans running other than the CPU fan and the PSU fan? I find it interesting that your temps are that high. I have a 2.8GHz and I only reach about 104F for the CPU (no load), but I also have 2 other fans.

Just the CPU fan and the PSU fan (which is so quiet I didn't know I had one till I looked.)

It's almost certainly a Northwood if it's a 1.7 Ghz, they don't make Prescotts that speed.
