Building my very first system:

Specs.
Aspire X-Navigator series (comes with a 500w PSU)
p4 560j 3.6 gig
Thermaltake CL-P0025 cpu cooler
Arctic silver 5 thermal grease
ECS PF21 extreme motherboard
WINTEC 1GB (2 x 512MB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM PC2 4200
HIS Hightech Radeon X700PRO 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 pci express x16

I didnÂ’t put in a hard drive nor cd roms yet because I just wanted to see if it turns on. The computer turns on, I go into bios and then it just shuts off. I turn it on again quickly go into bios and I see my cpu temp is at around 90c and climbing!!! Could it be the cpu shutting down the computer because of the high temp? Or could it be something more serious (as if the cpu overheating isnt serious enough). It seemed like I installed the cpu fan properly, guess I gotta go in and do everything over.

So there is no cooling on the CPU?!?!!? DO NOT TURN IT ON AGAIN UNTIL YOU GET A HEATSINK AND FAN ON IT! I'm surprised it hasnt already fried...

Edit, I see you do have cooling. Mabey you applied the thermal paste wrong?

What do you mean I have
Thermaltake CL-P0025 cpu cooler

the question I have is it because the cpu is so hot the system shuts off or could it be something else?

Mabey you applied the thermal paste wrong? You should never have the system on with the CPU that hot.
