Default Problem with graphics card and VGASAVE

My problem is that the VGAsave is conflicting with the graphics controller on my motherboard (I think)
I've installed the drivers for my graphics card but I can't get a resolution greater than 800x600! When I check the device manager there's an exclamation mark by the side of my graphics card, and when I check the display properties it says VGAsave!
I've tried a number of things :- disable vgasave, by the way don't do this cos you won't get any graphics the next time you boot!
Tried the latest drivers, pressing F8 when XP boots up and then enabling VGA mode, but nothing works.
My motherboard does not have onboard graphics either

At my wits end now!!!

System:-
Win XP Pro
Motherboard IC7 Max3
Hard Disk 160Gb Maxtor SATA
Sony DVD rewriter
1Gb RAM (crucial make)
GeForce FX5950 A380 Ultra

Try installing or re-installing your motherboard drivers. See the following link
