Can anyone advise me on this. my computer has started going into power save, even when I am working on something. the screen on the monitor will go black and say "power save". the computer itself does not powerdown or shut off, but I can't get it to "wake up" unless I restart it ior unplug it. I have removed the vidio card and the drivers. I have rebooted the computer, checked the bios settings, reset the bios settings, dumped my harddrive, reloaded the windows xp and about everything else I do. Does anyone have any suggestions for me. I appreciate any help it can get.

right click desktop --> properties --> Screen saver --> power

make sure turn off monitor is on "never" and everything else is set correctly

and make sure your monitor is fully plugged in

Wow..I was having this bastard of a problem with my machine just about 3-4 weeks ago. I suspected it was my video card getting ready to die (brand new 6800) so I took it to work and put it in one of our Dells and it stayed idle/on for about 12 hours! Which pissed me off cause my machine would not stay on for more than 5 min...It would do what you said..turn the monitor into a hibernate mode, but the PC would still be turned on just would never wake up..

I too reformatted and had the same problems..Then I reformatted again and it has been ok since? WTF!lol. I thought it was the power supply too, but it has been ok for 3 weeks or so..Thats what I would have replaced though since mine is nothing special. I did add two hard drive coolers, and another case fan and did some dusting...but I have the same CPU temps soooo Im really scratching my head now.

What was odd is when I used another video card I did not encouter this problem...do you have another video card that you can use??Even if its an old piece of crap PCI card..we are just trying to see if the systems stable.

thanks diablo II and win2kpatcher. I don't think it was an issue with my graphics card because I removed it and the driver and ran the onboard graphics and it still power save(d). Plus I do not have a spare graphics card. I will try Diablo II's suggestion and go from there.

Please Help!

Ok. I have checked everything I can. The computer goes into a power save mode. Here is what happens. the computer clicks as if it is restarting, then the monitor goes black and the test box shows up. after this a little box that says "power save" shows in the middle of the black screen. then the screen goes black and the monitor's green power light goes amber. THE COMPUTER IT'S SELF DOES NOT SHUT OFF DURING THE WHOLE PROCESS. I still have power led on the mobo and all fans continue to run. only the hdd activity light is completely dead. There is nothing I can do after that to get the computer to wake than to cut power of then on. Even then it repeats the trouble after post or after Windows XP logs back on. I end up having to leave the computer off for at least an hour then It will stay up for 1-3 hour then repeat the trouble. I have done everything from BIOS resets, video card removal and use of onboard graphics to dumping the hdd and reloading the whole system. asus p5gd1-vm lga-775, asus en5900 graphics card, 3.6 pentium, sound blaster audigy2 zs, Sony dvd/rw and cd/rw drives, sony 1.44 floppy, Western Digital 7200 rpm 200 gig, ultra 500 watt atx psu x connect, nec 17 inch fe771sb multi sync monitor.
