Default pci express compatibility?

Is the PCI Express x1 compatible with the older pci devices???

Will it work if i put a sdram in a DDR2 slot?

Older PCI devices cannot work in PCIe x1/x2/x4/x8/x16. SDRAM will not work in a DDR2-SDRAM slot.

thanx megadeath. also can a PCI Express x1 graphics card work on a PCI Express x16 slot?

Yes...but it'd be better if you reserved that for garphics cards because that is what it is intended to be used for. Here is the break down of PCIe:

x1 - Newer Expansion Cards Excluding GFX Cards
x2 - Same As Above
x4- Same As Above
x8 - GFX Cards
x16 - GFX Cards
