Question Is a PCI Bridge Necessary?

Is the PCI bridge a necessary computer component?

Will a NIC Card Work without it?

In my Windows 98 "Device Manager" My Linksys ethercard states that its working properly....

Is a PCI bridge necessary if I want to connect a PC to a DSL modem and a linksys router?

I appreciate your assistance!
