One of my friends asked me to set him up with some parts(just cpu, mobo, memory, vid card, hard drive and power supply) and this is what i came up with, he only plays c-s 1.6 and he is never goign to overclock. I know i put the winchester chip in there instead of the new venice, if someone gives me a real good reason to go venice instead of just saying "it overclocks huge" i'll tell me friend otherwise. same goes with the mobo. btw.. will the power supply be compatible, i dont know of its 20 or 24 pin, how do u check lol.

AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Winchester Integrated into Chip FSB 512KB L2 Cache Socket 939 Processor - 190.00

GIGABYTE GA-K8N Ultra-9 Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard - 140.00

TwinMOS 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200) System Memory - 94.35

eVGA 128-P2-N368-TX Geforce 6600GT 128MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI-Express x16 Video Card - 159.00

THERMALTAKE Silent Purepower W0013RU ATX 480W Power Supply 100 - 240V - 60.00~~~~~ switched to ocz modstream 450

80 gig SATA western digital

And thanks to who replys and helps, i'll tell my friend to come and register, he'll must likely regsiter as TODD.

And if u can afford it, switch the mobo to a DFI lanparty nforce 4 ultra. It overclocks better. I know u said it doesnt matter, but DFI boards are of better quality in general

No offense but that is WAAAAAY overkill for CS 1.6

A geforce 4 mx440 with a 1.6ghz p4 will max out the game no problem

i never said it wasnt, i was just stating that he only played cs 1.6 so no one would suggest the 6800 GT or something, he wants this to be good for future games he might want to play.. i play steam with a p4 1.8 and geforce 2 so ya :D

also, diablo how do i check if the power supply is 24 pin, im not doubting you with the modsteam being 24 pin, i just wanna know how to check, just to know

what in the...that gigabyte mobo is $140??/

a dfi lanparty ultra-d is like $135 and is MUCH better

other than that, it's pretty much future proof (except you probably won't max out games that are coming up next year or something)
