We need a sticky for a high preformance basic starter system, will try to keep up with newest.

Basic cost efficient setup for gamers:

Case: anything from Thermaltake,Antec,Coolermaster that looks good with at least 3 fans

PSU: OCZ ModStream OCZ45012U ATX 450W Power Supply

Mobo: DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultra-D Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Venice Integrated into Chip FSB 512KB L2 Cache Socket 939 Processor

RAM: TwinMOS 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200) System Memory

GPU: eVGA 128-P2-N368-TX Geforce 6600GT 128MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI-Express x16 Video Card

HDD: Western Digital Caviar SE WD1600JD 160GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache Serial ATA150 Hard Drive

(monitor,speakers, cd/floppy dirves not inlcuded)

The problem w/ a list like this is that the parts will keep changing and that everyone has their own idea of what's a good value and what's not. IMO a no name case is fine. And people have their own opinion of ram, mobo, pretty much everything you put on that list of yours. Oh yea, and the prices will change.

parts always change, different people have different needs; this ain't gonna be stickied

and plus, there's no need for a $150 case (some people would argue this though...that's why there's no point to stickying it)

also, the stock HSF is good enough if this is a budget setup

and seagate > WD (again..some people would disagree)

Neither OCZ or Western Digital deserve to be on that list.
Thermaltake are defiantly best for bang power supply, G. Skill is the best ram, OCZ is good, twinmos is great value ram.

Very true,You would have to update the list every single day and plus you get people arguing over what should and shouldn't be on it (DJ-CHRIS  )

the main problem with this list is that it's all opinions ;)

I agree with a majority lol, but I know everyone wont

Western digital is the best HD maker there is, quit spreading blasphemy chris

meh true. could just elminate prices and but basics for a good starter system. actually antec and ocz PSUs have higher ampage for price and true, 150 is much for a case, but WD=pwns j00
