Old HD/OS with new parts

one warning!!!! If you have files on the desktop.....transfer them off the desk top!! Once it is a slave, any folders that are on the desk top will no longer be accessable. i.e., if you have a folder on your desk top on the original drive and you make it a slave...the only way to retrive them is through a lengthly restoration program run: as in GEt Data Back etc.

aren't those files in the document/setting folder?? I can retrieve mine fine after use my old hard drive as slave.

just want to be sure.

Not if they are folders built by the user and directly on the desktop for instant access. If there is a way to get to them wihtout loading the desktop, I'd like to know how without having to run data recovery. It sure would be nice if they are accessable somehow. Educate me!!!
