not recognizing cdrom drives

k so my hard drive crashed in my computer, so i got a new 40gig one, but when i put it in the computer and start it up, it says that no cd-roms are found when there is 2 plugged in and u cant open them to use a recovery disk. Does anyone know how i could get the comuter to recognize them??

Does the LED on the CDROMs turn on when you boot?

no they dont it seems like there is no power going to them at all with the new hard drive but when the crashed one is in there they work.

How are you hooking up the power dongles to the new HD? and how are the jumper configurations. Also, are you hooking the HD up to the IDE for the CD-Roms?

well the power is just plugged in, used the same power as the old HD had. and what do u mean about the second thing. the IDE thing. Also the jumpers on the cd-roms are set to cable select and the HD is set at master
