Non Visable Desktop icons?

I have couple programs running for my game, prolly 4-5 programs. And i usally play another game. When i quit , or alt-tab out the game that i am playing, my desktop icons are non visable and sometimes they turn diffrent mixed up icons. I have a 2.8 ghz p4 ht, 512mb. Do you think i need more ram? Or is it a problem inside my computer?

do you experience it only with this particular game??
what kind of gfx card do you have??
