no desktop

Hello all,
i have windows xp on this computer
every time i get to the desktop theres no task bar or any icons, only an hour glass
system works fine in safe mode
i tried unchecking startup items and disabling non ms services
i also created a new user account...but no success....any suggestions?

Did you uncheck the startup items or take them out? Make sure that they are all shortcuts (they should be) and then, just delete 'em.....You can always put shortcuts back. I'd also check the sounds and graphics you have on your start-up/desktop....A friend of mine tried setting his startup sound to an MP3, which worked but took his computer all of 20 minutes just to start up......Is this a new system? If so, try re-installing windows (don't forget to back-up your stuff!), see if that works....
