new videocard, 9800 pro?

i currently have the ati 9600xt http://www.ati.com/products/radeon9600/radeon9600pro/specs.html . my system specs in signature.
I run CoD:UO, UT 04, and BF1942 at LANs.
I'm looking to upgrade to the 9800 Pro or 9800 XT but i know to do my homewerk first.
my budget is about 225 - 300
what other cards should i look at and what kind of fps would i be getting in these games?

get a 6600gt instead of the 9800pro. Your budget allows of a 6800 (standard one) as well, but most people say it isnt worth the extra money compared to the 6600gt.

For a bit more you can afford a 6800gt.

I disagree with the above statement, but I have had experience with the 9800 pro. Whether or not you get the 6600GT or the 9800 pro is your own perogative, but both will be great gaming cards.

Also, the Radeon runs hot, so be ready to upgrade VGA cooler.

As far as I know the x800 xl is only pci-express, unfortunately for you that card would be perfect if you had the right mobo. I wouldn't bother getting the 9800 pro. It won't be too much better than your 9600 xt. Save up some more money and get an x800 xt maybe. ATI will probably be your best bet for those types of games versus nvidia.

I'm curious to see this, the only I that I would think would give the 9800 an edge is its 256 bit memory, but I still don't think it can make that much of an impact.

They are both fairly competetive cards, but I think the 6600GT is the overall better card, especially considering the price.

edit - all right, it looks like my speculation was correct, but I still don't see how memory interface can make up for a 120mhz core speed difference.

The 256-bit interface has a huge advantage over the 128-bit interface.

The 6600GT maybee 128 bit, but it has over double the clock speed than the 9800 Pro on the memory, meaning more memory bandwidth.
