Hello,
I bought a new 160gig hard drive and got windows installed and all the usual stuff. But my pc has started running really slow, opening files, opening windows etc. I have an althon xp 1800 +, which i overclocked to 1.73, but it still went very slow... It got so bad that i have now put in my old hard drive. Anyone got any ideas too why it's going slow? Do i need a faster processor?
Many thanks
Chris Harris:p

My pc spec is:
160gig/40gig (160 gig removed!)
AMD Athlon 1800+
Geforce 4 64MB
512 DDR RAM

Ok,
I will try and put it onto another IDE channel, the hard drive is:
"Seagate ST3160021A Barracuda 160GB 7200rpm 2MB Cache - OEM"
Many thanks
Chris Harris

Make sure the new drive is set as master and the old one set as slave. I would suggest that you put the hard drives on the same ide channle (both on one ribbon), then put your optical drives on the other.

Also check.....

That you're using the correct Transfer Mode for your HD (setting in BIOS) and that you have DMA enabled on the drive.
