New hard drive did something wierd

I put in a new 160GB Seagate harddrive. It is set as a slave drive. Everything is working, showing the entire hard drive. I am running XP. Now my question. A file was created on the hard drive called "RECYCLER" The file just appeared, and I cannot delete it. It has two hidden files and I can't select unhide. I ran a virus check and there is no virus or adware. What is this file? Is there any use for it or any way I can get rid of it?

there are recycle bin files with the recycle bin logo n every drive, keeps track of the files deleted from that particular partition.

start > control panel > folder options > views > restore default. see if it remains there.
