new dvd drive wont open

i just bought a new dvd burner and i connected it all and everything and it wont open up i dunno whats wrong with it any ideas?

have you installed the drivers for it? You should not need to to at least recognize as a cdrom but did you? does it light up or anything? Does it seem to have power? does it recognize in My Computer and just not open? Tell us more.

it lights up and i hooked it up the first time and it didnt open so i unplugged it and hooked it back up again and i got nothin doesnt show up in my computer anymore lights up but doesnt show up and it didnt come with any drivers or anything i got it from newegg and it was a OEM product
