hi, I am getting a new computer on friday and almost positive I know what I want but Need a few opinions. I currently have aHP from a few years back and It has a athlon 1300 with only 112 of ram So I really need to upgrade. Anyway heres what Im leaning toward.

X-Dreamer Case 350W w/ Window (BLACK)
AMD ATHLON64 3000+ CPU
MSI K8T Neo VIA K8T800 Chipset 800FSB AGP8X w/LAN,USB2,
1GB (512MBx2) PC3200 DDR400 Memory (Major_Brand)
Seagate 120GB 7200RPM Serial ATA 150 8MB Cache
NONE - 2nd Hard Drive
ATI RADEON 9600 XT 128MB DDR AGP 8X W/ TV-OUT & DVI
ARTEC 16X DVD ROM (BLACK)
(Special Price) NEC ND-1100A 4X DVD+R/+RW + CD-R/RW DRIVE (BLACK)
(SILVER/BLACK) NORCENT 15
3D WAVE ON-BOARD 5.1 SOUND CARD

Price: $1484.00

I wanted to spend around 1300.00, But should I spend this much for this? I will mostly will be usong for school but want a decent gaming computer in case I want to play some games. Is this good or could I drop some stuff to lower the price? Let me knoe because I just put this together from reading this site:) Thanks guys

Actually that is from cyberpowerinc... where did I go wrong?

change this:

400 watt or greater power supply. i saw one that said +$30 for the 420watt

go with an XP2500-2700 processor, 3000 is too expensive at this time.

get only half the amount of memory you chose. 512MB PC3200 DDR400 Memory is plenty.

you can remove the ARTEC 16X DVD ROM (BLACK). you already have the burner, it can read DVD.

get a 19inch CRT monitor instead of LCD. NORCENT 15 is expensive.

i did not see any operating system or speakers, make sure you have them included. you might also want to start with a different configurator, some have better deals than others. a whole list is at http://www.cyberpowerinc.com/athlon_sys.htm . skip over the system configurators and look lower.

the AMD Value 3000 Soho looks good. has everything you need for casual gaming, just add a dvd burner.

Wow, you are goning to pay too much. There's no reason you can't build a great 64 bit system for under $1400. Keep shopping.
