Hi am building a new computer but the one thing i have no clue on how to tell what is good and whats is garbage is the VIDEO CARDS. I know this sounds newbie but im not getting jipped this time around. I only had a pci slot on my old mobo so i got the nvidea geforce 5200 bloody monster i found out after a while its garbage i dont wanna get jipped again. What do u guyz think i can get for 100 to 150$$$$$$$$ AGP 8X
THNX:cool:

$150 is the 256b 9600XT, it's a fairly good card, but you'd be better off spending more for a 9800PRO or something along those lines as it is the 9800PRO will do only 'so-so' for the newer games out today

well u can get the geforce 256mb cards are they any good?????
These are the ones im looking at right now:
VisionTek Xtasey 9200 256mb
eVGA GeForce 5700 256mb
Azus radion 9250 256 mb
Chaintech GeForce FX 5500 256mb
Diamond Stealth S120 Radeon 9550 256mb
Vision tek Xtasey 9600 256 mb
All those cards are at tiger direct.com Which of those are any good?

Stay away from 9600's they're evil.
Gecko this is like the 3rd post of yours where you claim something to be bad without backing it up in anyway. If you are going to say a product is bad you need to put your reasons for saying so. The 9600XT is a good card for it's price, but obviously there is better...

256mb of VRAM doesn't automatically make it better. You also got to consider it's other features, performance, and GPU Architecture. The best manufacturer you have listed is eVGA and is probably the best card out of those since none of the ATI's are the pro or XT series and I have the FX 5700 256mb card and it runs todays games fairly well. HL2 it can only run in DX 8.1 and it's a DX 9 game so technically you don't get to see all the details in full glory. Regardless though, the FX 5700 can handle doom3, hl2, and farcry on medium settings, and if the aa and af is off and a low resolution you can put it on high settings....depends a little on your overall system

A perfect example of what Nubius said, about your assumption of 256mb card, is when people have benchmarks that show a 9800pro 128 doing just as well, and sometimes beating hte 9800pro 256mb.

Get at least a 9800pro 128mb, maybe if you can look at nvidia's 6600 and up, but they do make a price jump.

Geforce FX 5700 Ultra plays up there along side the 9600XT, and they're about the same price, here's a Refurbished 5700ultra for $125, made by BFG. I havn't heard anyone really bashing refurbished graphics cards, but there is only a 90day warrenty. So you might want to go with new anyway, just thought I'd throw this option your way.
