EDIT: aight ya know what mister smart guy i dont like you!! It was at 60C
You know the very second you stop playing the game, even when it goes to the menu of the game for you to hit quit...that thing has dropped 10C instantly, GPUs dont stay hot like CPUs. Use Rivatuner, then open up the hardware monitor THEN play games. It keeps a line graph of how hot your GPU got ;)

because if you're exiting the game and looking at that temp I can promise you it's already dropped atleast 10C by the time you look at it.

What do you guys think about an XFX. I found one i can buy for $165. Is that card ok?
Here comes madwad :p I wouldn't suggest it. Tons of posts on this forum due to problems with the XFX. They seem to be a kind of hit or miss kind of company.

Nubius, so you plan to do the step up program? Is the 6600GT not everything you thought it would be?
Yes I plan on doing the step up program.

Yes the 6600GT was everything I thought it would be I'm just getting greedy :p lol muahahaha

The 6600GT is a great card, and it OC's quite nicely gaining 5K difference in Aquamark03 thus far, about 1200 in 3dmark03 and about 800points in 05.

For $200 (actually like $180 now at zipzoomfly) this is a great card.

Buuuut like I said it just hit me last night "Hey....I might as well just use the step up program, get the 6800GT....then water cool that!" hehe.

I figured the 6600GT would last me a year...getting the 6800GT basically overkills that guarantee haha. Especially with games like F.E.A.R. and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. coming out (yes it's weird how both games are abbreviated) I want to play it on ridiculous graphics and insure that it will play smoooooooove.

Oh well like I said, the 6600GT is great. I've never had a card where I knew "yeah I can put this to max settings and it'll play" but I'm lusting for MORE MORE MORE!!!!

Hahaha, I like it :) By the way, do have any idea how big of a FPS difference there would be between a 6600GT clocked at 500/900 MHz and say 525/1100 MHz? Is it noticeable, or not really?

:::EDIT::: I don't mean to hi-jack this thread or anything, just a quick random question.

lol well I would if I actually recorded FPS in games....of course it also depends on your games.

Heres some benches though that are pretty close to those specs to show what kind of diff you can expect:

Stock @ DDR460 @ 2.53GHz - 71.84 Drivers- 7742 - 3dmark03(Build 360)

520/1101 @ DDR472 @ 2.479GHz - 71.84 Drivers- 8300 - 3dmark03(Build 360)

So about a 500point increase in 3dmark there (To get a significant impact the core really needs to be raised higher. The memory doesn't play as big of role but of course it does help)

Stock @ DDR400 - 2.5GHz - 71.84 - 49,494 - Aquamark3

535/1101 @ DDR472 - 2.479GHz - 71.84 - 52,787 - Aquamark3

Little over 3K increase in Aquamark there.

Stock - DDR400 - 2.5GHz - 71.84 - 3312 - 3dmark05

535/1101 - DDR472 - 2.479GHz - 71.84 - 3685 - 3dmark05

And a little over 300 points in 3dmark05.

So yes you would notice a nice little gain in speeds and FPS.

Currently I'm leaving it at 535/1070 for everyday use :D Plays HL2 at 1024x768 resolution with 4x AA, and 8X AF maxed out settings, reflect world without a hitch ;)

Well you said it , i'm not going to debate this all i have to say is a few simple statments. 1-Sguffee, i have an XFX 6600gt and it runs perfect, I love the card. 2- There have been lots of posts about problems with this card.

Sguffee i have something here you might find interesting, just take a look. :)

Gotta Stand Up for my XFX! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't wimp out on your core. Currently, I leave mine at 585 :p

That is of corse, without the voltmod. No voltmod till I have money to replace the card if needed, and I am blowing all of my money on networking.
