If you are thinking about upgrading to a different CPU, socket 939 for example, don't even bother spending money on an AGP video card. Wait until you get a new system to do it.
Also, if you are looking to spend this money to play games, but you aren't even sure if you are going to continue to play games or not, I would HIGHLY suggest getting a CONSOLE. PS2, Game Cube, xBox... etc. etc. etc. ONE payment for hardware, no need to upgrade to play the new games. You only have to buy the software. No need to spend $500+ on a computer when you can get a console for under $300 (except for an xbox 360.)
