Im looking for a decent sound card. Im getting a new yamaha reciever w. 6.1 and I want to plug directly into my computer via firewire or rca. What are some good cards that arent overpriced?

I'm using Creative Audigy 2 ZS (its internal) but very very nice sound quality, else others that are very much rcommended are:

Terratec Aureon Space 7.1, Terratec is quiet new, but very recommended. a true competitor for creative.

i was really impressed when was listening to the terratec. imo, it sounds better then creative does.

**I dont need RCA, i just need to connect the two...what connection can i use besides the RCA? opticle??

You can go optical if you do not want to go analog RCA.

To do this, you can either buy a cable that goes from a 1/8'' mini plug to a toslink (aka optical) cable. A cable similar to this one:

Or, you can go with the Creative Audigy2 ZS Soundblaster PLATINUM. This comes with an I/O drive that goes alongside your CD ROM Drives. This I/O drive allows you to have input/output for: RCA, optical cables, microphone, headphone and firewire on top of having a seperate volume control. This platinum package is about 65 bucks more than the sound card alone. The platinum drive is pictured here:
