Default Need some backup software!

I need some backup software to use with my external hard drive. If anyone can recommend some that'd be great. I have no clue if there are any good freeware backup programs but it doesn't matter if what you list is freeware or not.

Yes, but I would like to know of individual programs which some of you might have used and know are good through experience.

I thought could only do whole drives, is it able to do individual files also. I really don't mind if it's only the whole drive if it has an automatic scheduler too.
