Need help on a purchase!

I know im gonna get linched for saying this.....


but....


as a student myself, I bought an AMD laptop...but my friend bought himself a Mac, and yes, I wish I would have looked into that first.
I would never buy a Mac desktop, but the laptops are pretty amazing. Look into it.

It claims to play doom 3. I figure... if it can handle that, it'd most likely handle any game you wanted to play. Im not a fan of laptops though...

I picked up a Computer Edge magazine outside my Bio class today and started flipping through the pages. I found this deal for a laptop with a 17' wide screen and my choice of either a Pentium 4 3.2Ghz or AMD64 3200+ with 512mb of ram and ATi M 9700 pro for $1700 . I'm thinking im going to get this one, but what processor do you guys think i should get in it?

If i was in your situation i would go with the Pentium 4 only because they are more geared towards office work while AMD is for games, and it seems like your doing office work ( notes , etc. )
