You can buy a complete system - including the CPU - for less than $100 on ebay. I often buy workstations for small business and educational use. Grabbed one last weekend with 733mhz pIII, 20gb hard drive, 128mb ram, for $79. You'll pay that much for a new replacement motherboard if you can find one. Grab a complete system and mix and match parts is your best bet.

my friend was able to get me a complete gateway system that currently has 64mb of ram,pentium 3 650mhz....and once i get it..i am going to replace some of the parts like the sound card,network card and maybe more ram
