Exclamation Need Help! Friends comp. messed

Hello guys,

My friends computer is really messed up. THe computer doesn't recognize the cd-rom drive and burner anymore. Like when I click My Computer icon, the drives arn't there anymore. Just left with C drive and A drive.

Does anyone know what's happening and know a solution?

Thanks
Much appreciated.

is it on XP?

as if yes, then in hardware device manager, and click scan for hardware changes, it might show up.
