Need Help Badly! Asus Prob!

I have a ASUS P4S800 Mobo with a p4 2.6ghz with 768mb of ram. I put it all togeather and it runs quick as hell but i have a big problem and i do not know how to fix it. I am trying to use my sound blaster Live 5.1 sound card and it will not work. The mobo picks it up and says its installed but when i try to play music with winamp it says there is no direct sound. The onboad sound will not work eaither. I thought it was a conflict at first but i turned off the onboard sound from the bios and then tried it again. I then tried taking the SB out and uninstalling all drivers, rebooting and it still did not work. What should i do? i think what im going to try next is just reformatting it with the onboard stuff turned off from the bios. PLS HELP!

check your device manager, what does it say about the sound card?

Run dxdiag to test directx sound.
