Question my cpu is messing up...

my cpu is running at 90-100% when im running a program, and it runs at 50-60% when im not
i have 512 ram and i have a 3.0ghz pentium 4 800 mhz fsb...does anybody know what could possibly be wrong?
ive tried using ad aware to search for anything but it dident do anything helpfull
can someone give me some suggestions please?

scan your pc with an anti virus ... check if there any un neccessary applications running at the startup. if you are on windows xp it would be helpful if you can tell which application is taking the most of the cpu % you can check by opening the task manager in the process check which application is taking the most of the cpu... i recomend mcafee v8.0 antivirus it solved my problem.

Yeah or trying runing a msconfig stop everything from starting upp except for anti virus softwear mostl likeley will solve problem if u cant get rid of what ever is doing this cpu drain

sounds like either virus, spyware, but definatly you have something running int he background
