My Computer reboots when I get to the Load screen (with the bar)

Hi guys, yesterday....I installed a lot of critical updates from microsoft. I rebooted and when my computer got to the Windows Load screen (bar on bottom) it just reboots. When it gets to that load screen I see 2 shades of grey after another on the monitor then reboots. A friend said my hd was corrupt......so I put in an XP pro cd...wen to repair...and it ask to pick a number.....the only number was 1 and that is to scan my C drive. Then it ask me for my administrative password...I tried blank...everyone says its blank..but it dosnt work? Help
