I have a amd with a 1.2 gig processor with 512 megs of ram in a 4hr period it will go silent for about 5 seconds 4or 5 times a night
when i use a celeron m with 1.7 gig processor with 256 megs it never skips I was told it may be because i upgrade from 256 to 512 on the amd and it may be maxing the limits does anyone have any ideas

the AMD is kind of low on gigahertz - 1.2 ghz is nothing...and SDRAM is terribly slow.

the celeron M is a much newer processor, and the RAM is DDR-RAM, so its faster.

IS the AMD running windows xp?

It's not underpowered. I'm using a PIII 800mhz right now and play music on it all day and night. It never skips and has 512mb of regular SD Ram (PC133). I'm going to say you need to do some regular maintenace on it. Defragment the drives a few times, run some spyware remover software, virus scan, etc.
