Default motherboard and case

OK so i now have both my motherboard and case. Is it possible for me to try testing the case's fan noise and LEDs with just the case, PSU, and mobo? Also if i'm going to be buying the rest of my parts end of may, should i install the mobo onto the removable mobo tray or should i just leave it alone? I don't want to short anything and kill my mobo so please help me out. Thanks

If your fans use Molex connectors, you dont even need to use your mobo. And yes, either way it should be safe to test out your fans and LEDs.
