Default monitor sony e530 convergence

Hi, i have sony 21" monitor e530 and it seems I cannot make picture as sharp as I want. Picture can be made sharp enough for example in upper left part of the screen but in lower left it becoms fuzzy. I use res 1280 x 1024 with 85 Hz. If I lower freq to 75 hz picture is more sharp but then I see something like waves on the window borders. My friend have same monitor and doesn't have problems. he says that problem is because I have integrated VGA (Asus as7-vm motherboard chipset SiS) and when I change motherboard and by real graphic card problem will dissapear. Is that possible?
Thanks

It could well be possible, but before you go out and buy a graphics card, haven't you got a low-end one lying around that you can test with?

To second that, haven't you got another machine you could test the monitor on to prove it isn't faulty?
