When ever I switch my computer on, before the logging on screen, the monitor switches off. I move the mouse around and press down on the keyboard but it still wont switch back on. Even switiching on the monitor using the on button does't help.

What's wrong with it?

check all of your connections, particularly your DB-15, in the back of the computer and the back of the monitor. make sure your not overloading your circuit and that everything is plugged in right.

sounds like the solder connection to the heater on the back of the CRT tube is cracked, I have this problem all the time with monitors, cause the solder joint for the heater is large and durring manufactureing the joint doent get heated up enough to make a good connection, then the heating and cooling of the monitors heater (from turning it on and off) eventualy cracks the joint and the screen wont work.
