monitor problem

hi all, I just got a monitor from a friend and hooked it up to a old comp when turned on I get a message reading

If you can read this message, windows has sucessfully intialized this display adapter.

To use adapter as part of your windows desktop, open the display option in the control panel and adjust the settings on the sttings tab.

After I get this message I cant do anything including turning it off I have to physically turn off the psu. I've tried everything I could think of please give me your input. Thankx

U mean after you booting your PC, it wont go for your window instead hanging there?

OK, here are few things:

1: what system ur friend has got? i mean, the Resolution

2: what resolution you have got? (before installing this monitor) ?

and what is model number/name of monitor?
