Monitor Help

I found a couple of 19" monitors on the internet in the
$375 - $390 range and was wondering if anyone knew anything about the brands or websites



The first one is a Jetway from a website called memorylabs.com

I'll give you my personal opinion on the sites themselves, jetway products stink, they fail so I wouldnt doubt that everything they sell does the same thing, fail.

Newegg is a pretty respectable website their return policy is very good and well, thats where I buy 40% of my stuff.
The Other website I have no clue about. I'd personally buy from newegg

I would agree that newegg is the way to go but what are you going to use the monitor for? Gaming, graphics or just a little of everything...

Yeah, I agree with jcline, you gotta tell us what you're looking for. You can spend $2000 on a 19 inch monitor, or you can spend $350. Depends on how you're going to us it and how discriminating you are.

I wouldn't go with that Acer model, btw, either.

When shopping for monitors, stick to companies that specialize in monitors, and stay away from cheap generic brands, or companies with no reputation. Monitors are expensive (can be) and you don't want something that'll break in three weeks and you can't get serviced.

Try BenQ, ViewSonic, MAG Innovations, and especially LaCie (if you can afford LaCie).

I've never even heard of the Jetway or Rosewell brands... Tigerdirect is a good place to buy as well.

I'm not really going to use it for anything in specific. I just need an all around monitor I guess. Also, I have a $400 dollar budget.

should I go for a 17" from a better know company?

I don't know whether you want a LCD or CRT, but with $400 you really can't get a superb LCD, you would need around $600.
However, NEC is certainly a great brand and I have had many great experiences with it.

What about Hyundai, Advueu, Vision, Rosewill (i think this is only at newegg.com), Acer, Jetway, and GEM.

If you know anything or have had any experience (good or bad) with any of these companies, please post it.

(the only thing im concerned about is price: $400 and under; and Size: 17" - 19"; all that other stuff is not important, except for reliability)

I'd go with the brands I stated earlier.

I will say that it's going to be a bit tight to find a decent 19" LCD monitor for $400.

I have four BenQ FP992's for work. They have mediocre dot-pitches (.29) and average response times (25ms), but they're well made and have awsome features (like pivot and swivel). I trust BenQ, at least in my work environment. For you, though, this probably won't work as they cost about $510 a pop.

For home, I use only MAGs and LaCie monitors. MAGs are tough and have good features, but they shake on higher quality of the image and are hard to find and service. LaCie monitors are like some of the best you can get, and you'll have to sell a body part to get them...but you'll pyss yourself when you see the difference.

If you don't care about the image, and you don't do a lot of gaming (especially with newer games) then you have a lot more options available. Go to some generic store (like CompUSA or BestBuy) and just grab one. Or go to some mass-produced vendor, like DELL or HP or Xerox. The monitors will be ultra cheap and of low to average quality.
