I just bought a new Dell Dimension 3000 desktop and I thought I can use it as a server (with Windows 2003 server OS). I guess I was wrong.

Now I am looking to spend some more money on this system.

I need to replace some device within that Dimension 3000 to make it work like a server, is this possible?

In device manager, I found a question mark next to the following device:

Ethernet Controller
Multimedia Audio Controller
PCI Simple Communications Controller
SM Bus Controller

Is worth the money and effort to fix all these things? Or I just put the system on Ebay and sell it cheap?

Then go buy a Dell PowerEdge Server?

Thanks.

You can make any computer into a sever. A friend of mine has a linux server running on a old intel 300mhz pc. What are you looking to host with this? Do you need something powerful or just something to host files?

I have a database driven website with light daily internet traffic.

But I need some device drivers for my Dimension 3000. As you can see from my post, I have alot of device conflicts and How can I make those device work with Windows 2003 server OS?
