Question Modem/fax card

Hello, I got this old PC working finally and is hooked to net with cable. The problem I have is getting it to install driver for phone line modem. Do I have to be plugged into phone line for it to tell which modem it has? TomW

you should be able to start up the system and the system will detect the modem, then proceed from there with the installation.

If you don't have a driver for it you could try to download the driver from:

www.driverguide.com

you will need the to find some kind of ID(ie make/model/chip #s...) on the modem so you can get the proper drivers.

There must have been somthing wrong with the card. I put a different one in that came with the motherboard and it found it and installed driver right away. It would not even tell me what the old one was, It would just say something about PCI communication device. I know what brand and model it was and had the driver but would not work. I could not even find it listed in the modem selection and it came in this PC. TomW

there are different drivers for different OS's so you may not be using the right one for your's
Windows 2000 and XP can use the same drivers
