hi

a friend of mine has a 5 year old gateway running win98 with intel 500mhz cpu. he has 128mb of ram.

he's wondering about putting another 128 mb in and adding winXP..
I think the ram would be ok but is'nt it pretty low specs for XP?

Tom

It will run XP just fine.

I have XP Pro running on my old Dell XPS 400

-P2 400Mhz
-512MB Ram
-4MB AGP Video (Forgot Card)
-16GB Hard Drive

Win Xp will work on it. If it's a P-III 500, no problem

I have gotten Win Xp on PCs as low as Celeron 366 with 512Mb Ram.

ive got a gateway on xp pro specs
400 k6 amd (think k6 maybes k7 dunno difference)
312mb sdram
onboard graphics (sum rubbish but dont matter)
1.8gig and 40gig HDD mobo accepts upto 35 HDD to boot form so i got xp on 1.8 gig lol

i only use remote desktop to access it that why graphics not important. but its realy realy slow, wit no theme no background no sceensaver and old start menu. also my norton systemworks 2004 and internet securituy 2004 wont run but ive heard that could be a virus, (even though avg doesnt pick up there is one). very strange. any1 heard about this be4?

The ram is a good idea, get another 256 stick at least. Windows xp a lot more stable than 98. With some more ram and a newer operating system that will definitely be a decent upgrade. Not so much faster, but just way more stable all around.
