Why do people recommend getting 2 chips, instead of one. For example... I wanted to buy 1 Gb in ram. I was told to get 2 chips of 512 Mb, instead of 1 chip of 1 Gb. Is there a reason for this?

Thank you in advance... I really appreciate any responces. ;)

It depends on whether or not you are using dual channel, and a 1gb stick is expensive as hell, it is cheaper for 2 512's.

i was looking at RAM recently and for what i am going to get, 1 GB stick will run me about $390, where two of the 512 MB will cost $125 each (that's $140 difference!!)

Don't get 1 stick of gig RAM, get 2x 512mb even if your Mobo doesn't support Dual channel, which it likely will.....

if its in dual channel itll perform about 10% better because it runs 2 clock cycles correct me if im wrong
