memory question

about to buy a gig of memory but what i want to know is (here goes)

the cpu is an xp2200 running at 266Mhz so just now ive got pc2100
sticks which runs at 266Mhz which seems right and true

but!

can i use pc2700 memory which is meant to run at 333Mhz with this processor
will the memory just run slower (266Mhz)?

the reason is i want to upgrade my cpu later on so i want the memory to be compatible with a faster processor

(mobo runs up to 400Mhz)

CPU and memory FSB run independant of each other. they do not have to be in synch, but it is a good idea to do that. give me your mobo make/ model, i can look up your max memory speed supported.

i would recommend keep you current memory and only upgrade processor, a memory upgrade is not neccessary. you can have memory pc2100 and a CPU with 333Mhz running on the same board, no problems.

so the memory will work? they cost the same (266-333)
so i thought id opt for the 333
