Mainstream 64Bit

Hey guys, I was wondering how many years it will take before 64BIT processors become mainstream. Not mainstream with all the hardcore users, but with everyone...where most people have 64BIT and most programs are 64BIT only.

My reasoning is because I could buy an amd64, or a faster p4 for the same price. I will keep said computer for about 3 years before moving on. Would I even see much 64BIT applications by then? And by then and amd64 would be pretty darn slow in 3 years.

Anyone got any educated guesses?

As you can see, both Microsoft and Linux operating systems are already available to take advantage of 64 bit processors, but I still don’t know if 64 bit will become a ‘standard’.

faster p4 dont be fooled by the ghz most of the 64 bit amd;s are faster than intels and they cost way les

For some reason i like these bench mark's a lot better.AMD's have never been faster.They cant deal with the heat.Thats why they take the back seat with CPU speed.
