Default LPT1: Asus A7v8x question

I am having a problem getting windows XP pro to recognize an iomega external 100mb zip drive on the parallel port. I have searched manually for the device, restarted the compupter with the device on, off.... Is this a problem with the drive or the motherboard or are there any known compatability issues with the os and drive. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
