Logitech Precision Headset Broke??

Hey guys, I have had this headset for about 8 months now and it has been great until recently the sound just stopped working. I have had to solder a joint after my dad stood on the cable and pulled out on his chair but it did work once i fixed it. Now I am truly stumped as the mic works and the solders seem ok just no noise comes out. I have tried it with all sorts of devices to no joy. I was watching heroes at the time with it and the sound just cut away, I did a bit of fiddling with the volume control by physically moving the wires around it and it seemed to do something but now it is just gone. I've tried fiddling some more but still no good. I could post pics if you really want. Or is it best I suck it up and get a new one I will see if I can get my friend with the same headset to dismantle it and compare. Other than that i am pretty stuck any ideas?
