Default LED backlit LCD Display expensive??

I am looking for a new monitor because mine is dimming out and of the few models I can find with LED backlighting they are all immensly expensive, why is this?
You can get LED backlighting in a laptop for a decent price, how does increasing the screen size by 5-7 inches up the price so much? (It is just a stick of LED lights on the bottom or bottom/top, so I fail to see where this excess cost comes in? (I am just using normal logic, not computer logic, computer engineers out there, don't kill me!)

Cost of the LEDs them selfs arent bad, but why not charge more for something that is cheaper yet supposedly lasts longer? That and they do have to get the LEDs to spread light out more even as most make a spotlight effect.

IMO just get a normal LCD screen...
